Billboard Awards Bring Out Eye-Cons

Last night’s Billboard Music Awards was doused with star-studded attendees, high-energy performances and plenty of prestigious awards. Rapper extraordinaire Eminem and teen heart-throb Justin Bieber stole the show, winning six awards each. Followed in close pursuit were Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift, Rihanna, Taio Cruz, Mumford & Sons and Usher, with three awards, respectively. A breathless Beyoncé helped wrap up the night and was honored with the Billboard Millennium Award after a bootylicious performance of her latest hit, “Run the World (Girls).”

As with any award show, it’s always a delight to check who wore what. Eyewear, of course, was a fashion staple among the popstars on both the red carpet and onstage. While the styles seen were as eclectic and expressive as the stars who wore them, there were a few hot trends to take note of.

Dark, bold shades helped keep the adrenalin flowing during performances throughout the night, as was seen by artists like Mary J. Blige, Snoop Dogg, Lil’ Wayne and Far East Movement. Everything from oversized sunnies to dramatic shields to modified wayfarers showed face. Other stars favored mixed media aviators—some with flat-tops—rimless styles, gold and metal detailing and blacked-out or gradient lenses.

Statement specs included chunky geek chic and sleek semi rimless frames worn by the likes of Randy Jackson, Tim Allen and cutie pie Rico Rodriguez. Classic square and rectangular shapes were a popular choice along with the increasingly trendy colored lenses.
