Eyewear Lights Up the Emmys

Last night’s 63rd Annual Primetime Emmy Awards went off without a hitch. Mad Men and Modern Family stole the show and took home the top honors of the night for “Outstanding Drama Series” and “Outstanding Comedy Series,” respectively. In addition to the awards, the evening was filled with friendly banter, a hilarious host, entertaining performances and, of course, seriously divine red carpet fashions. While we loved the lavish dresses and handsome suits, it was the eyewear that caught our attention.

Geek chic styles stole the show and were seen on a wide range of A-listers. Everyone from Modern Family’s Rico Rodriguez to Mad Men’s Christina Hendricks to director Martin Scorsese embraced one of fall’s hottest trends and got their specs-appeal on. Thick, chunky plastic frames dominated the scene in rectangular and square shapes and added a smart yet edgy appeal to the evening’s high fashions.

Sunglasses, on the other hand, also showed face on the red carpet and during the show. Matt Leblanc rocked classic aviators while Seal went with bold, gray sunnies for a modern look. Meanwhile, sleek shades – including blacked out wayfarers, futuristic shields and dark navigators – made quite the statement during Michael Bolton and Lonely Island’s memorable and comical medley.
